3 Simple Steps to Stopping Procrastination Dead in it’s Tracks

Procrastination is a great example of sacrificing self.
When you procrastinate you are effectively stopping your life force and using a lot of energy to do it. What if there was a way to stop procrastination DEAD?

Here are 3 simple steps that accomplish just that.

1. Courage to ask for and receive support – have your expert facilitator available for the tricky ones.

You will need an expert for those places where you haven’t had much or any experience and really need an objective, outside view. For example, your Mother’s illness triggering basic programming of safety, security and control.

In the case of more simple situations and things like completing a work assignment, cleaning your house or having that less than comfortable conversation with someone, you can use your journal, your self-conversations, your mediation practice, or a friend who supports your brilliance and calls you on your pain places.

Not only do we need to be able to recognize the need for help, we also have to make the choice to receive it. Often when we are in a crisis or resistance place, it can be difficult to see or hear the support that is right there in front of us. Choosing to open to ALL available help is a skill. We need to practice accepting help and trusting that it is there. This is another important step in the process toward higher energy levels and increased awareness.

2. Courage to be honest, with yourself.

You know you procrastinate, we all do it, but have you thought about HOW you procrastinate? Energetically, you do it by holding yourself back, holding your energy back. You actually have to put a tremendous amount of energy into resisting, into holding back. If you think about it logically for a moment, it is easy to see.

Consider an amount of energy that is carrying forth the impulse to act. If you want to hold back that impulse, you need an equal amount of energy and then a bit more to actually contain the impulse. It’s simple physics, in order to stop a moving object you must meet it with a equal and opposing amount of force. Yet the trick here is you aren’t simply looking to stop it, you want to push it back down and that takes even MORE energy.

The question becomes, are you ready to be honest about this and consciously choose another option? What might you be free to accomplish if you simply let go of this internal battle? By enlisting support and taking just a moment to honestly look at what you already know, you have taken the first 2 steps. Now, let’s look at step 3.

3. Courage to act

Without a clear intention it feels very difficult to take action; and any action you do take is going to be messy and unfocused. It’s like birdshot — nice ammunition, but not very lethal. Lacking a clear intention is great for telling yourself you weren’t ready or you need more time, training, inspiration, rest, help, etc! (We are so sneaky).

Step 3 requires you to align with yourself, align your intention, so you can experience the freedom that comes with no longer wasting your valuable energy.

This may mean being vulnerable, stepping into new territory, risking an unknown reaction, etc. Inner control freak, anyone? However, now that you have all the energy that was going into your resistance available to you, you’ll be surprised at how easy taking action can be. It becomes almost effortless, which is the longer term objective…effortlessness. Stepping forward with purpose can be easy, it can be fun and it is powerful.

Since you are no longer at cross purposes within yourself, you can effectively put twice as much energy behind your choices. All that you had previously wasted attempting to hold down your impulse is now supporting you and your action. YIPPEE!!
Using your energy in alignment with what you really want, rather than in service of resistance and procrastination, will change your life.

You’ll love how great it makes you feel, and you’ll love how it increases both your effectiveness and the speed of your success. You have many impulses every day. Every moment is another opportunity to embrace a new idea or fresh impulse. Use these 3 simple steps to ask for and receive support, to be honest with yourself, and to take action in as many ways as you can.

Do it today and watch procrastination stop dead in it’s tracks!
